I think overall peer review is pretty helpful, the goal of
peer review is to get comments and feedback on your paper to make sure you’re
going in the right direction. I like peer review because I think sometimes it is
more relaxed and easier to get feedback from people your own age before you
turn it in, rather than to just get comments back from the teacher. I think
groups for peer review should be kept pretty small to no more than two or three
other people. This is the best way to just take a couple of people’s advice and
use what they said to help better your paper. I would also prefer to pick my
own group for peer review, because I think it’s easier to give constructive feedback
to someone you already know as opposed to someone you don’t know at all. I
think peer review is most helpful when people give you big tips for the
structure of your paper or overall how it’s going instead of just saying yeah that’s
good or just giving minor grammar or spelling corrections. I would rather them
be more honest and have me do better than them not give back much feedback at
all. Finally, coming from the other side I think as a reviewer it is important
to be able to tell what their topic is, and overall what they are trying to say
with their paper in order to give them tips on the best ways to improve it.
