I think it is very interesting the way NBA players have
strayed from their stereotypical way of dressing. In one aspect I like this
change because it sends a message that NBA players don’t necessarily have to
dress and act in the way that was previously expected. I like how it says that
these guys can be both talented and smart. They don’t have to fit the stereotypical
athlete form but can also show their own style as well. But at the same time it
also makes me question what image and message they are actually trying to
portray. Do they actually have a motive behind it or is it their own individual
expression of style? Maybe they are trying to be an academic inspiration to kids both on
and off the court, which would be great, but in this article their reasons for
dressing the way they are were unclear. I’m not so sure what their motivation
behind dressing the way they are was. To me it seems a little bit random and
different when you’re watching a game and expect to see players dressed in the
normal sweat outfits but find players in button ups and glasses in the
traditional nerd style for their interviews. I don’t think they are intentially making fun
of the nerd way of dressing but I think it could somewhat come across that way.
Never the less whatever their reasoning may be, weather sending a message or
just expressing their own style, they have definitely made a big impact on the
world of professional basketball.
